Loved the story Janet told about when they were doing Fairfax Avenue, that Jerry would keep saying that he didn't get the shot, when Janet has to shoot Tony and he falls into the pool. He had the shot all along but he kept messing with him and telling him to do the scene again. lol
Janet was adorable, she had the award she received from Jerry and was reading and was like isn't that wonderful! Then she had the actual scripts she used. When Tony Curtis was interviewed he seemed to mention those times with like annoyance, and here is Janet keeping awards and scripts and reading them with delight.
Nice to hear Janet say that in Living it Up that her and Jerry had some nice character development scenes where his character was more mature, and Norman Taurog and Hal Wallis were afraid of that and took it out. Norman left a couple of scenes of that though at least she said. Would have loved to see the other takes.
Carole Langer annoyed me when she said that Jerry was awkward in love scenes, and agree with Bill Richmond, etc. Uninteresting next to Tony Curtis in Boeing, Boeing?? Pleaseee He was just as good as Tony, and he honestly had the better romantic scenes. It's debatable between he and Tony, who was funnier in that movie, but Jerry was sexier, in my opinion. I'm glad Janet defended Jerry's love scenes with her, and said that he was great. They always had great chemistry together.
I think she glossed over the real reason why Tony and herself stopped coming over. Tony and Jerry had a big blowup in late '53 right before they did Living it Up. Then they made up for a bit, or at least Jerry and Janet were seen together. Not certain if Tony and Jerry were ever publicly together again until Boeing, Boeing. Anyway they went their separate ways starting in '54.

those were great interviews. i agree with all classickat said...it’s clear janet loved JL and working with him and appreciated his talent. loved when she said he was one of the greatest directors she’d worked with (and she worked with hitchcock!). funny she was unaware of boeing, boeing. i also think it was touching she had the script and awards from those days. interesting what she said about the shifts in the film industry and the 60’s ‘new hollywood’ being ‘disillusioned’...as filmmaking is about illusion and the new hollywood was about realism.

My understanding was that Jerry told her he was uncomfortable in the "love making" scenes in Boeing Boeing.

Yeah and Bill Richmond said it too, about his scenes in movies generally. I think honestly he felt guilty or embarrassed doing it. It reminds me of The Jerry Lewis Show episode from '63, where he had to kiss this actress on stage, and he like felt awkward doing it in front of his wife who was in the audience, so he decided to make a joke about it. Whatever Jerry said or thought, he looked smooth and sexy, yet little awkward (because that was his character to some degree), in those kissing scenes.
