I met Jerry Lewis in Dec. of 1982 at the old Playboy Club in Atlantic City NJ. His Manager Joe Stabile arranged for me to meet J.L. between Shows. As we shook hands I was very nervous and apologized for that. He tightened his handshake grip and patted me on the back and said,Joe I know the trouble you went thru to get here and relax for its a pleasure for me to meet you. I handed him a gift that was neatly wrapped. A handmade clown that a friend hand made.
We talked about his films with Mr. Martin,The Nutty Professor, and the Telethon. I remembered Barbra Walters once said about him. When he speaks and listens to you his eyes never leave yours. The meeting lasted about 15 minutes. He thanked me and when it was time to take him downstairs for the second Show he said, thank you Joe and thanks for the gift.
I then went to the bar and had a drink. When I started to get back to some kind of normalcy I thought about other things I would have liked to ask him. He couldn't have been nicer.
It certainly was a big highlight in my life.
