I was researching and looking for JL articles and stumbled upon these from the set of of the Stooge. Appearently, when Marion Marshall kissed Jerry and he fell down the stairs, he hit his head on the bannister, which resulted in a visit to the hospital. I'm not sure if this is the take they used in the film, but it does sound like he hits something when falling. I have also added a few other articles here about this scene and how director Norman Taurog wanted Jerry's romantic debut to play out.

Lol I don't understand the ones on him struggling to kiss someone and also nobody wanting to kiss him. I hope they're just made up stories, because the way Jerry kissed on screen when not trying to be silly, was always pretty sexy. And I'm sure after 7 yrs of marriage, and lots of other women besides, he knew how to kiss. lol Certainly there were women lining up behind the scenes to kiss him, amongst other things.
Jerry hitting his head is visibly seen in the film, and I always had wondered about that. He was always getting injured.

I think that was just publicity blah-blah, part of his stage character of not being quite normal, bashful with girls, etc. But don't forget that Corinne Calvet did not look forward to her almost-kiss scene with Jerry at the end of My Friend Irma Goes West.

Yeah, it's kind of funny how many articles were written about this scene coming up. In a way, I understand because it was the first time Jerry got a love interest, so some seemed excited about it.. I just don't think that that many women were unwilling to practise with him. Marion Marshall came to his defense in this article: Attachments:

That makes me wonder what she thought of the scene with Jerry in Sailor beware.
