Does anyone know if there will ever be a Jl memorial? I was reading that Truman Capote’s ashes were sold at an auction for $43,750. That is frightening. As years pass it seems more likely something weird could happen. Even if the ashes have been scattered peacefully (I hope that is so) why not a memorial? Sorry for the depressing nature of this question but I have wondered about this for sometime.

He has a star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood and his hand and foot imprints in cement are also somewhere in Hollywood, so what would you like to see? With memorial, I assume you mean some kind of statue or something physical erected somewhere. Usually memorials are found at the grave of the person to be honored, which of course is not possible in this case. I don't think Jerry's ashes would be sold because I think they were scattered long ago and if I had to guess where, I would guess at sea. I don't know if Jerry would have wanted a memorial, he always said he wanted to hear the praise - the nice words - while he was still living. He didn't even want a funeral. It takes money to erect a memorial, so who would finance it? Where would it be? Who would design it? Who would maintain it? Who would get the cooperation of the family?
As I see it, his films, TV shows, telethons, recordings, books, etc, are the memorial to him. As long as we have the internet and printed books and all of the above recorded on some medium, we have Jerry, that's the memorial that would reach many fans worldwide. The laughter and warm human feelings that all these things continue to give us are in my eyes better and have more impact than any cold statue or cemetery bench that only a few people would ever see.

Even though I knew it was unlikely, I thought it would have been honoring to have him (his remains) placed somewhere close to Dean Martin at Westwood Memorial Park. However, I assume he told relatives how he wanted it.

He had a memorial service where many people went. Chris and Scott were the only sons that were there, even though they didn't talk to each other. Chris was running the behind the scenes for the memorial I believe. I remember Joe DiCesare posting the memorial invitation at the old forum and people throwing a fit because somehow it was invading the family's privacy. There was a huge forum spat which pretty much ended the old forum. lol. Morgan Christopher and other friends/fans of JL and his family went.
I don't see any future memorial for him other than that. As Denise and Jessica have said he wanted the good things said while he was alive. It's our duty as fans to keep his memory and career going, along with any members of his family that care to do the right thing. Chris Lewis has pros and cons to what he is doing to keep JL's career in the public eye.

At first I thought it was because Jerry had died until you told me about it. I wonder if Jerry's sons are quarreling since you mentioned Chris and Sott didn't talk to eacg other at the memorial. If that's the case, then it's appearent that there were so much more going on with the family then just the "Jerry Lewis is an idiot"-argument.

Was the memorial service open to the public? I had the impression it was by invitation only. Didn't know that some of the brothers were not speaking to each other, but it doesn't really surprise me. Ron seems to have broken contact years ago.

Yes, the memorial was by invite only. Some fans that were close to the family got to go.
And yes the sons always have issues. Gary and Anthony don't get along. Anthony and Chris seem to hate each other, with Anthony calling Chris the devil on fb before. Ronnie disowned them all. Sam and Chris were preventing the other sons from seeing Jerry towards the end. Not sure why exactly.

I can only wonder why the sons are are fighting. It sounds like their relationship has been dysfunctional for years. On Youtube comment sections they'd probably say it's all Jerry's fault for treating them badly. I don't even know what to think anymore.
Sorry about getting off topic.

Its demise is due solely to the people who ran it. They became a surrogate for the Lewis family, effectively -- and it got to the point that you couldn't even discuss historic events like the Martin & Lewis reunion without walking on eggshells.

regarding a memorial.....last winter when i was in palm springs i saw that there were memorial stars on the downtown sidewalks commemorating those important to palm springs history, etc. many familiar names. including sinatra. i asked how one gets a star and was told anyone could get one if you paid the $1200. i fantasized about getting one for JL. he had a house there (which i got a private tour!), vacationed there in the very early days, and of course performed there numerous times. The Purple Pit from The Nutty Professor is a satire of the The Purple Room, a lounge at a local hotel (which features many Rat Pack photos, but none of JL 😢).

Did you post your Palm Springs photos that you took related to JL, on here? I know you did on tumblr. If not, please post them here as well.

Anthony treated Patti poorly, and occasionally Gary and Joseph when they stole her jewelry and other things from her house. Now it can be said that Gary and Joseph were on drugs when they did this, so they sort of have an excuse of why they acted that way. Anthony on the other hand does not. Patti didn't do anything wrong to be treated the way she was by Anthony, and was always there for her sons. They can't blame Jerry for all their issues. They got to take responsibility for their own actions.
