In his bio of JL, That Kid, Richard Gehman quoted the lengthy article in Look magazine in 1958 about Jerry's supposed spine condition as a small child. Grandma Sarah noticed it, took Jerry to a doctor and the treatment was feeding bacon and bacon fat to Jerry until he was well again. I'm not a doctor, but I have serious doubts that eating loads of bacon fat will cure anything. Does anyone know more about this? Did Jerry really have such a condition, or is this some story concocted by Jerry and/or his press agent?

Honestly in the Look interview and the That Kid book, those were the only times I have heard that story. There was also another story of her saving him as a baby. I'm not sure what to think about that one.

Shawn Levy does not mention this at all in his biography of JL. The baby story, also repeated on the YouTube bios of Jerry, says that his mother was given so much ether during the long labor, that Baby Jerry was still asleep a day after his birth. For whatever reason, the doctors wanted to do a spinal tap on him (spinal condition???). Grandma Sarah put a stop to that by simply taking Jerry home, where he finally woke up. The whole thing sounds fishy to me. A spinal tap because of too much ether? C'mon...
